Needham Community Theatre was founded in 1956 by former members of The Linden Players, a community theatre group sponsored by The Congregational Church of Needham. Since that time, NCT has produced two regular season productions a year. From 1956 through 1963 NCT only staged plays. In 1964 NCT performed a musical (The Pajama Game) for the first time, with then-Broadway star John Raitt attending one of the performances. Since then, NCT tradition has been to perform a musical in the fall and a comedy or drama in the spring.
NCT also periodically stages workshop productions and play readings throughout the year, as well as entries to the annual community theatre festival previously sponsored by the New England Theatre Conference (NETC), and now by the Eastern Massachusetts Association of Community Theatres (EMACT).
